The tour
On the trail of the Vils
There are a lot of cycle paths, which are called“The Vilstalradweg”. With our recommendation, however, you can follow the entire course of the Vils. The cycle tour, which is also suitable for families, begins directly at the source of the river that gives it its name. It finally ends at the mouth of the Naab near Kallmünz. The Vilstalradweg is marked with a white sign with the green inscription “Vilstalradweg”.
The Vilstal cycle path along the Upper Palatinate hills
The Vils rises in the small village of Kleinschönbrunn. In the course of the cycle path narrow valleys alternate with wider ones of the Vilsecker and Hahnbacher Mulde. Undeterred, the Vils flows through beautiful landscapes that will hopefully only take your breath away symbolically. After passing Amberg, the Vils made its way through a deep chest valley in the Jurassic limestone. You will not get bored in any case! You reach the mouth of the river in Kallmünz and thus the end of the Vilstalradweg after about 82 kilometres.
The tour also takes you to Amberg. On your way we invite you to stay at the Bett&Bike – Hotel Brunner Amberg, which is located directly at the Vilstalradweg. Our bicycle garage, which is locked at night, and well-equipped bicycle washing facility will certainly convince you. We have marked the location of the hotel on the map accordingly.
